Israeli air force again strikes Syrian army positions in Quneitra province

Quneitra - In the last few days,  several mortars and other projectiles landed in the Israel-held Golan Heights, a mountaineous area near the Syrian border. These mortars were most likely shot by Syrian government forces during clashes with the Syrian opposition in Quneitra province, after these groups recently launched a offensive on the government-held ''Madinat al-Baath'' and nearby other locations.

Israel, as per usual policy, responsds to these incidents in the Golan Heights by retaliating with airstrikes or other attacks. Several Syrian army soldiers have been killed and wounded during airstrikes in the past seven days, and several positions and vehicles, including atleast one tank, have been destroyed by the Israëli airforce.

Israel occasionally bombs positions deep in Syria, especially in the area around Damascus. For example in April, the Israeli air force targeted a weapon shipment it described as being intended for Hezbollah, the Lebanese militant group fighting for the Syrian government and one of the main opponents of Israel.
