Two years, two months, and over 9,000 lives later, the war in eastern Ukraine surges on. Australian war journalist Bryce Wilson has been to the frontlines of the war in Ukraine twice within the past few months. Since returning to Australia, Bryce has teamed up with Australian visual storytelling agency, PLGRM, to direct and produce a short documentary from the videos he filmed whilst embedded with Ukrainian soldiers in Mariinka and Pisky. NATO today announced that it would more than double the size of its ‘Response Force’ in Eastern Europe, an act which can be seen to be the nail in the coffin for the post-Cold War demilitarization of Europe. The force itself will be increased from its current number of 13,000 troops, to between 30,000 to 40,000 active soldiers. In addition, a special subset of this called the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) will be beefed-up with new troops and weapons. This force, designed to be deployed in a matter of days against “threats to NATO sovereignty” numbers at 5,000 troops, and was a key decision of last year’s Wales summit.
