Explosive Footage of Ex-Soviet MLRS Used in Eastern Ukraine

January 20, 2015

While the ongoing war in Ukraine has seen the fielding of a vast amount of ex-Soviet weapons, no weapons platform has been used more in the conflict than so-called Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS). For a number of reasons, these weapons systems have been used in huge numbers by both sides of the conflict to a very deadly effect. Based around a truck or tank chassis, these weapons systems are a form of rocket artillery. Fixed on adjustable turrets, MLRS hold racks of mounted rockets (usually between 10-30 per vehicle). These rockets are unguided dumb munitions and thus are used for target saturation as well as suppression of enemy positions. In addition, their range is quite extensive, making them very useful for hit and run attacks against static positions, especially against an opponent with no air power.
