When Harakat Hazm decided to fold with its members going to the Levantine Front (a group composed of a variety of Islamist groups with varying beliefs) and some of the moderate FSA brigades, it appeared that the United States had lost any chance of influence in Aleppo. Upon reflection, truth of the matter was that Hazm was doomed from the start. Hazm was once considered the shining hope of US foreign policy in Syria and was well know by most people following this conflict. However, the situation Hazm found itself in was not so cut and dry (like all things in Syria). Jabhat Al Nusra has a strong presence in both Aleppo and Idlib. Essentially, it was impossible for Hazm to operate without them in some capacity. This presented a problem as the United States expected Hazm to not just ignore JaN, but to eventually fight them. JaN is still given respect by most Syrian opposition groups in Northern Syria. So to fight them would be to place a major target on the backs of Hazm.
